January Winter Weather

Overview

A cold front brought freezing conditions across the state, including snow, ice, freezing rain and subfreezing temperatures in some places from January 19-22.

Governor Greg Abbott announced the activation of the State Operations Center in preparation of winter weather in Texas.

During this winter weather event, snow accumulated in light amounts in parts of the Panhandle and West Texas.

Some areas of West, Central and South Texas experienced below freezing conditions, causing minor traffic impacts due to threat of icy road conditions.

Many communities activated warming centers in response to the subfreezing temperatures.
