A wildfire approximately 7,206 acres in size burned in Hardeman County, roughly 6 miles south of Quanah, TX. Dubbed the Texas Copper Breaks Fire, the wildfire burned in rough terrain, with multiple structures threatened and saved. The Texas A&M Forest Service served as Incident Commander for this wildfire. A disaster declaration was issued August 18, 2019.

Federal Public Assistance for Category B (emergency protective measures) was approved for Hardeman County.

TDEM accepted applications through August 7, 2020 for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Post Fire (HMGP Post Fire) designated in the Fire Management Assistance Grant Declaration for FM5288 Copper Breaks Fire affecting Hardeman County.
